About Maria Fernanda Hubeaut and her Practice of PERFORMANCE ART and PHOTOGRAPHY.

As a result, through the process of practicing and developing Documentary and Art Photography I discovered the Performance Art Language, which gave me the possibility to integrate all the other learning disciplines and experiences acquired along my life; involving also writing, dancing and creating a vivid image in motion which is essentially energy. Fact that brings me to the conclusion my work is unmistakably based on it, energy.

My background in journalism somehow nourished my creativity in the way that I can face that reality with a new statement, where I can touch people's lives in a stronger and more direct unfiltered way with much less intermediary process than when being a reporter; work that I also have done and I absolutely feel passionate about.

All this avid desire and manifestation on my nowadays art practice leads me to find trainings and professional people who I can really learn from and fulfill that quest within. Up to date I have also been training on Sufi Dance and Butoh, establishing my true purpose of continuing learning from other traditions and cultural disciplines so as to express a new vocabulary that can educate communities to understand different interpretations of reality and to open up new perspectives and viewpoints.

My practice is based in visual art, photography and Performance Art by

creating collaborative and individual projects. Selected credits include: Performeando, Grace Exhibition Space, Panoply Performance Lab (PPL), Bushwick Open Studios (BOS), The Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance (NoMAA), The IMC Lab + Gallery, Brooklyn International Performance ArtFestival, Villa Victoria Center for the Arts, English Kills Art Gallery, to name a few.

Mercedes and the story behind the Photography

My grandfather died when I was 14 years old and all that I have from him is his old Pentax Spotmatic. I remember that I experienced a lot of sadness in that time of my life. Nothing attracted me, only the cinema. I was a member of the Cine-club, where every Saturday I saw new and old movies that inspired me with the stories and photography that I saw on the big screen.  After I got the camera back from the cleaning expert, I started to ask myself how to express all those sensations of suffering;  how to release all those feelings of loneliness that sometimes pursued me in the form and shapes of images, shadows and lights.  I took some portraits of my closest teenage friends, for them, because everyone dreamed at that time to be famous.
I met Mercedes thru another friend and when I saw her I had the feeling that she had come from the past, from the past of photography.  I created this portrait of her like an old one, like a daguerreotype style, I scratched the negative and I printed on old paper with old fixer to exorcise the idea that she has died and she just coming back from the dead to be photographed by me.
I didn’t go to the funeral of my grandfather, taking this photo it was the best way for me to be close to the idea of death in a photographic sense.
This is the only copy that survives a house fire in Argentina.
